About the Project

This world-first research project explores how young people experience regulation in their digital lives. In particular, we will consider how young people respond to different forms of digital oversight, monitoring and intervention, as well as evaluate the effectiveness of such practices on subsequent behavior. To this end, we are asking British secondary school students to complete a a sequence of surveys that ask them about their online activities, and regulatory experiences.

The original and novel data collected through these diaries will make possible the identification of:

  • The full range of regulatory activities that young people are exposed to in their digital lives

  • The impact of different types and sourcesof regulatory activity on subsequent online behaviours.
